David and Dennis helped convince us that selling our financially-draining older home was what was best for our family and promised to help us find a newer, safer, and financially viable home, which they did.
From the first moment we casually mentioned that we were not happy with constantly updating our home’s outdated systems, they immediately began to counsel us on the pros and cons of selling and buying in a (at the time) declining home value market. With no agenda for a commission, or personal gain, they respected the love and sentimental attachment we had to our home and then as we made the painful but prudent decision to sell, they did not stop with the advice, but helped to set it in motion. From helping us organize and deep clean our home (even vacuuming!) before the appraisal to celebrating with us as the value came back much higher than we ever expected (which I attribute to their advice, appraisers are swayed by plants, fresh paint and cleanliness just as buyers are, even if they say they aren’t).
Then the real fun began, to find a new home. As an HGTV addict and one with, what I consider, above average taste and a good eye for possibilities, I found a kindred spirit in David. He met with my entire family as we went over must-have’s and never-considered’s and absolutely not’s. From my 7 year-old’s desire for a room with a west-facing window benchseat and storage underneath for Barbies, to my husband’s simple request of “needs no work”, David drew out a virtual map that fit our price range and offered to do some of the drive-bys himself before deeming a home worthy to view. When the happy day came to step inside some of the homes we had researched (using their handy search tools), David had narrowed this down to six options and, a last minute one along the way, which was fantastic to see as a reference in terms of cost (Here is brand-new, bad location, vs. brand-new, good location). David also kept me on track, which is hard to do, because we would drive by older homes with potential and he would remind me that’s why we had to leave the last house. His practicality balanced my enthusiasm for a new project and my husband’s dread at the mention even of paint. With one look David would anticipate my question as we walked into every room of every home, “Yes, I think you’ll want new countertops and granite or quartz would probably cost xxx.” Or walked every foot of every garden, “The property next door won’t be sold or developed, so you’ll have the backyard privacy you wanted.”
To my surprise, I also found myself happy with not one, but two choices in a new home. Again, David and Dennis’s advice provided us with the best decision for our family. For hours we discussed the resale value, cost of additions, cost of eventual updates, as we chose a nearly new home only in need of a few plants and paint. David was there throughout the home inspection, ran endless signed papers to and fro around town, emailed/texted/called whenever I was feeling anxious, and best of all, was a friendly face at the closing along with a well-chosen jolly lawyer. We’ve never had a home selling or buying experience go so smoothly. I don’t believe a more genuine or caring duo of real-estate experts exists.
